eSIM Compatibility Explained

An eSIM (embedded SIM) is a small chip embedded in your device that allows you to activate and manage mobile plans digitally. If your device has this chip, it's eSIM compatible.

Exception: if you’re using a work phone, your company may disable the eSIM option, so even a technically compatible device might not let you use an eSIM.

How to Remove a Carrier Lock

A carrier lock means your phone only works with the provider it was bought from. This mainly affects phones purchased through a carrier (e.g. T-Mobile, Verizon). Phones bought directly from Apple, Samsung, Google, or sold as unlocked by electronics shops usually aren’t locked, unless they’re tied to a carrier installment plan. If your phone is locked, contact your carrier and ask them to unlock it. You can check the unlock criteria on your carrier’s website first. For example, the phone may need to be paid off, active for a set time, and not reported lost or stolen. Avoid unauthorized unlocking services.
